Memorial Day Hiking

Carmel Valley is a wonderful destination for all types of hikers, and Garland Park has a great sample of trails. Much of the park has flat, wide trails which are great for walking dogs (tick-infested grasses can be easily avoided) and for riding horses, if you happen to own one. The Carmel River runs through the front of the park, however it is definitely in creek form. There are a few tiny beaches if you feel so inclined to dip your toes in the water. If you wish for more of a work out, you can take a trail like the one I took today – a big loop up the mountain. Basically, just keep going up. You will come across some great views of the backside of the valley and possibly work off that second bowl of ice cream you shouldn’t have had the day before.
